Tussetschläger et al. breytingar eftir tímabilum voru bornar saman við veð- urfarsgögn frá nærliggjandi veðurstöðvum með það að markmiði að kanna tengsl við mögulegan sífrera á svæðunum. Þessar aðferðir reyndust ágætlega og má vel nýta háupplausnar gervitunglamyndir við greiningu fanna í fjalllendi á Íslandi. Kortlagningin sýnir tilvist nokk- urra fanna á öllum svæðunum á um 30 ára tímabili, þó er útbreiðsla þeirra mjög breytileg eftir svæðum og tímabilum. Þar skiptir máli landslag, hæðyfir sjáv- armáli og lega (viðmót) á hverju svæði, en beitt var ákveðnum síunaraðferðum við greiningu fannana til að draga úr þeim áhrifum. Þrjú svæðanna, Brimnes- dalur, Búrfellsdalur og Kerling, skera sig úr en þar er útbreiðsla fanna og líkur á tilvist þeirra langmest- auk þess sem lega þeirra er mjög svipuð allan tím- ann. Samanburður við veðurfarsgögn bendir til að kortlagningu fanna í samhengi við meðalárshita megi nota sem vísbendingu um tilvist sífrera í fjalllendi Tröllaskaga. Flestar fannanna eru þar sem meðalárs- hiti reiknast nokkrum gráðum undir frostmarki, ofan 800 m hæðar. Þar sjást sömu fannirnar með nokkuð breytilega útbreiðslu á öllum myndum á 30 ára tíma- bilinu og eru þær taldar tengjast tilvist sífrera á þeim stöðum. REFERENCES Allen, S., S. Cox and I.
