NIÐURSTAÐA
Við eitt hundrað svæfingar hefur
Ketalar reynst hættulítið og öruggt svæf-
ingarlyf. Að meðaltali hefur orðið 18%
hækkun á blóðþrýstingi, sem er nokkru
meira en aðrir hafa fundið. Engar alvar-
legar aukaverkanir hafa komið fram. Of-
skynjanir voru ekki til neinna vandræða,
en leggja ber áherzlu á, að sjúklingar fái
að vakna í ró, án bess að reynt sé að vekja
þá.
Að mínu áliti reynist Ketalar vel í eftir-
töldum tilvikum:
1. Til allra stuttra og endurtekinna svæf-
inga, einkum hjá börnum.
2. Sé útlit fyrir sérstaka erfiðleika á að
halda opnum öndunarvegum.
3. Sé hætta á losti.
Það, sem helzt mælir á móti því að nota
Ketalar er:
1. Systoliskur blóðþrýstingur yfir 160
mm. Hg.
2. Hækkaður intra-craniel þrýstingur.
3. Bakteríusýking í öndunarvegum.
4. Psycholabil sjúklingar. Þó er varla
ástæða til að hætta við að nota Ketalar
hjá slíkum sjúklingi, ef sérstakar for-
sendur eru fyrir hendi, þar eð ofskynj-
anir eru sjaldgæfar og vel viðráðan-
legar með róandi lyfjum.
Ketalar er mjög góð viðbót við svæf-
ingarlyfjaforðann vegna sérstæðra eigin-
leika.
ENGLISH SUMMARY
A short survey is made of the pharmacologi-
cal properties of the new anaesthetic Ketalar
(ketamine hydrochloride). One hundred pati-
ents were anaestetized with Ketalar for vari-
ous operative procedures in our hospital, most-
ly operations for strabismus (72 cases). The
patients’ age ranged from few months to 57
years, with 82 under 15 years.
We have found a mean increase in blood
pressure of 18% which is rather high com-
pared to other studies. There were no serious
complications. It is concluded that Ketalar is
a safe and effective anaesthetic and has par-
ticular merit in certain operations.
