quantitative as well as qualitative hydrological data,
related to the glacial groundwater, will with certainty
enable us in the future to detect the glacial compo-
nent in the groundwater systems of the country with a
steadily increasing accuracy and degree of confidence.
ACKN O WLEDGEMENTS
Thanks are due to all my colleagues and collabo-
rators, who have contributed to the collection, compi-
lation and interpretation of the information discussed
in this article. I would especially like to mention
Árni Snorrason and his staff of NEA’s Hydrologi-
cal Survey, Hrefna Kristmannsdóttir and her staff of
NEA’s Geochemical Laboratory, SigurðurR. Gíslason
of the University of Iceland, Snorri R Kjaran and the
staff of Vatnaskil Engineering Ltd. and last not least
my fellow hydrogeologists Guttormur Sigbjamarson,
Ámi Hjartarson and Þórólfur H. Hafstað. Sveinbjörn
Björnsson, Guttormur Sigbjarnarson and Sigurður R.
Gíslason read the manuscript critically and I am sin-
cerely grateful to them for their valuable advice.
