heildartími sem fer í sáraskiptingar er marktækt styttri.5, 68 Þetta
er ótvíræður kostur, ekki síst þegar meðferðinni er beitt í heima-
hjúkrun.67
Sárasogsmeðferð hérlendis
Sárasogsmeðferð hefur verið notuð á Íslandi í rúman áratug og
notkun hennar fer stöðugt vaxandi, sérstaklega innan almennra
skurðlækninga. Brjóstholsskurðlæknar og lýtalæknar hafa notað
meðferðina mest en einnig æðaskurðlæknar í vaxandi mæli. Í ný-
legri grein í Læknablaðinu var farið yfir notkun sárasogsmeðferðar
hér á landi á 12 mánuða tímabili árið 2008, bæði innan sjúkrahúsa
og utan.69 Á þessu 12 mánaða tímabili fengu 56 sjúklingar samtals
65 meðferðir. Oftast var meðferðinni beitt við sýkt skurðsár (40%)
og til að örva gróanda (42%). Fullur gróandi náðist í 68% meðferða
sem telst mjög góður árangur,69 en samkvæmt erlendum rann-
sóknum næst gróandi í 29-39% sára með hefðbundinni sárasogs-
meðferð.4,12 Auk þess hefur sárasogsmeðferð verið töluvert rann-
sökuð við sýkingar í bringubeinsskurði eftir opnar hjartaaðgerðir
hér á landi. Hefur árangur verið mjög góður og á við það besta sem
þekkist erlendis.3.7
Sárasogsmeðferð er mikilvæg nýjung í sárameðferð sem helst
nýtist sjúklingum með langvinn sár og sýkt skurðsár. Mikilvægt
er að læknar og hjúkrunafræðingar þekki til helstu ábendinga og
frábendinga meðferðarinnar, enda hefur notkun sárasogsmeð-
ferðar farið hratt vaxandi víða um heim.
