Læknanemanum hefur hoiizt sérprentun á grein
eftir Guðmund Björnsson augnlækni, sem birtist í
Nordisk Medicinhistorisk Ársbok 1976 og ber fyrir-
sögnina: „An Icelandic pioneer surgeon“. Undirtit-
ill greinarinnar er: „The unique opthalmic work of
a district physician in the north of lceland 1896-
1907“.
I greininni er lýst augnlækningum Guðmundar
Hannessonar, er hann var héraðslæknir, fyrst á
SauSárkróki 1894-’95, og síSan Akureyri 1895-
1907. MeSal annars framkvæmdi GuSmundur Hann-
esson meiri háttar augnaðgerSir, einkum við dreri
(cataracta) og gláku.
Þá kemur einnig fram í greininni, að GuSmundur
Hannesson var fyrstur til að benda á, hversu gláka
væri algengur blinduvaldur á Islandi og aðalorsök
þess, að tíðni blindu var (og er?) hærri hér á landi
en í öðrum löndum.
Þá hefur blaðinu borizt sérprenlun 6. kafla bókar-
innar: „Slow virus diseases of animals and man“.
Heiti kaflans er: „Pathogenesis of visna: review
and speculation“. Höfundar eru N. Nathanson, H.
