The President honored—Before the Convention closed, a gift was presented to Mrs. Olafsson in honor of the occasion of her 25th wedding anniversary, June 30th. The gift was a Sheaffer’s ball-point pen, suitably engraved, plus a sum of money, toward which all those attending con- tributed. The presentation was made by the honorary president, Mrs. Hansina Olson. Mrs. Olafsson thanked the speaker for her kind words, and the donors for their generosity and good-will. Convention Business in Brief. Before proceeding with the business, the president read the names of members who had passed away during the year, as follows: Mrs. Kristín Cristopherson, Grund; Mrs. Kristjana Johannesson, Glenboro; Mrs. Steinun Stéfanson, Selkirk; Mrs. Thorunn Melsted, Winnipeg; Mrs. Olina Erlendson, Geysir; Mrs. Sesselja Gudmundson, Arborg; Mrs. Anna Sigurbjorg Olafsson, Brown; Mrs. Kristín Palson, Riverton; Mrs. Maria Sigurdson, Geysir; Mrs. Mary Isleifson, Glenboro; Mrs. Elsabet Jonasson, Arnes. A silent tribute followed by the Lord’s Prayer, consecrated their memory. The Convention sent a message of sympathy to Mrs. Erlendson who was in hospital following an accident. We missed her presence, as she is one of our most faithful and staunch workers. Accredited representatives attended the Convention as follows: 31 delegates from 18 societies, 25 officers and committee members, plus 1 individual member, making a total of 57. Four new individual mem- bers joined the League and they are: Mrs. J. K. Stevens, Minerva; Mrs. G. E. Narfason, Gimli; Mrs. Maria Johnson, Winnipeg and Mrs. O. Thorsteinson, Husavick. (Names of delegates appear in July lOth issue of Logberg.) Reports were submitted by the various officers and conveners out- lining the year’s work of the L.W.L., and also by 19 of the 21 societies within it. The total membership is about 650 women who devoted their time and energy to worthwhile efforts within their particular societies and within the League as a whole. The societies have on their agenda the following: church and Sunday school work, home and foreign mis- sion work, charity, post-war work, and cultural work. In fact, practically every philanthropic enterprise that comes to their notice, receives their attention and generous support. Particularly are they interested in the Camp project which they support by gifts of articles and money as well 47
