Hér skal bent á að það eru einkum sjálfsmorð sem framin eru með lyfjum, föstum eða fljótandi efnum, sem eru tíðari meðal lækna en annarra og þá sérstaklega meðal lækna sem ekki hafa sérfræðiviðurkenningu. Hærri dánartíðni meðal lækna sem ekki hafa sérfræðiviðurkenningu kemur einnig heim við nokkrar bandarískar rannsóknir á læknum sem gerðar voru fyrir lön^u (29,30).
