Abstract The Ideology of Classification – Trends and Traditions The classification concept is both an analytical and bibliographical, classification systems are examined in historical context in view of the trends and traditions in western epistemology. The changing ideology and attitudes towards classification in different periods are discussed. Finally there are some thougts on new ideas about classification and the need for new kinds of classification systems in the electronic environment.
