Somewhat less satis- factory results have been obtained with the argon dilution method, but prospects of im- provement appear good. CONCLUSIONS It cannot be claimed that an easy and suf- ficiently accurate method of assessing the dis- charge from a well is yet available. Nevertheless, during the last five years a better understand- ing of two-phase critical flow in parallel ducts has increased the likelihood that a method can be devised on this basis. The rnajor impedi- ment, as the above and other analyses show, is the extreme difficulty of disentangling the transient inter-related effects which occur late in the expansion as the pipe exit is approach- ed. Subject to this, if dilution methods, which are now showing promise, can be perfected, there should be available in the future two different but complementary techniques.
