NOVEMDER 1965
At the begin of the month the ice edge was
ab. 35 miles NW of Cape Straumnes and 20
miles N of Cape Horn. The coverage was
mainly lllO—óflO but only 2fl0 at the E-ern
edge. After a spell of SW-erly winds tlie ice
had concentrated and spread E-wards. Just
after this observation was made a period of
persistent NE-erly winds began and swept the
ice outwards frorn the coasts.

niost dayly in the vicinity of Selsker.
87n The Coastal Guards plane SIF reports:
The icebergs at Selsker still sighted. The ice
edge was running roughly from 6615/2540 to
6655/2400 to 6645/2200 to 6700/2145 to 6720/
2200. Two strips were extending from the ice
edge towards the coast, one from 6633/2440 to
6623/2420, the other one from 6645/2300 to
6633/2250 ending only 6 miles off Cape Kögur.

NNF. true of Hraunhafnartangi) reports: Small
growlers in vicinity.
FEBRUARY 1966
Average distance of the ice edge off Cape
Straumnes was ab. 60 miles with nearest ap-
proach of 48 m.iles.
7/2 The Coastal Guards plane SIF reports
the ice edge running remarkably straight from
6655/2700 to 6910/1000 to 7050/0700. Some
spread blocks were sighted ab. 30 miles N of
Cape Hraunhafnartangi. Distance NW of Cape
Straumnes ab. 65 miles.
11/2 The Coastal Guard reports the ice edge
running from 6840/1800 (N of Kolbeinsey) to
6650/2600. In a 20—30 mile broad zone within
the ice edge there was a coverage of 1/10 to
2/10 of slush and new ice. Distance NW of
Cape Straumnes 60 miles.
28/a Coastal Guard: Ice edge running from
6640/2550 to 6655/2530 to 6700/2445 to 6725/
2330 to 6715/2200 to 6750/1730 to 6845/1500
to 6905/1520 to 6915/1455 to 6850/1400 to
6905/1200, the distance NW of Straumnes being
48 miles, N of Cape Horn 50 miles, NNW of
Grímsey 65 miles.
MARCH 1966.
The average distance of the ice eclge NW of
Cape Straumnes was 57 miles with a nearest
approach of 48 miles.
8/3 Coastal Guarcl: Ice edge running from
6640/2600 to 6730/2230 to 6740/2000 to 6807/
1900 to 6810/1730 to 6910/1430 to 7005/1055.
Coverage was mostly 7/10 to 9/10 except for a
small strip of the ice edge with 1/10 to 6/10.
Distance from Cape Straumnes 50 miles.
17/s Coastal Guard: A radar plotting gave
the ice edge running from 6640/2620 to 6720/
2420 to 6750/2030 to 6805/2000 to 6805/1930
to 6845/1630. Distance from Cape Straumnes
was 64 miles.
2i/3 The ice is spreading E-ward and ap-
proaching the NE-ern coasts. The Coastal
Guard reports the ice edge running from 6640/
2600 to 6710/2330 to 6700/2230 to 6700/1720
to 6900/1330. Concentration along the ice edge
was from 1/10 to 5/10, then mainly 7/10 to
9/10 as far as sighted. Distance from Cape
Straumnes was 48 miles.
28/3 The ice edge has receded somewhat.
