Of these 340 were nonathletes, 174 females and 166 males aged 7-35 years, and 119 male athle- tes aged 11—35 years. No difference by sex was ob- served up to tlie age 13 or 14 years, but thereafter the males slioived aboud 20—30% higher values. The athletes were not found to have higher values than the nonathletic males. At tlie age 15—16 years there was greater increase in FVC per cm body height for males than for females. Height showed the highest correlation with FVC and FEVi much higher than previously reported. Prediction for- mulae are given and a comparison shows that pre- viously reported formulae give lower values than the ones reported in tlie present study.
