Climatic changes simulated by
reciprocal transplantations from
the lichen heath to the blueberry
community generally seem to be
more serious to the vegetation.
This indicates that a wetter cli-
mate with more snow and ice
crusts and shorter vegetation
periods, but with better protec-
tion against low winter tempera-
ture, will have important
impacts. First of all many arbore-
al lichens may be kilied, whiie V.
vitis-idaea and F. ovina are reduced.
Due to the lower competition,
Carex bigelowii may grow well,
while establishments of most
other vascular species (except D.
flexuosa), and to a lesser extent
some mosses, seem to be slow.

The planning of the studies and
the field work were carried out
together with Dr. Faye Benedict.
The author thanks her for good
collaboration in all the work.
