Á sjávarútvegssýningunni í Laugardal í september kemur Vaki til meö aö sýna mismun- andi útfærslur af Bioscanner teljaranum og einnig flokkunar- vél I samvinnu viö ístess á Ak- VAKI New Counter for small fish and a weight measurement function for the bioscanner Vaki Aquaculture Systems unveiled a new model of its well-known Bioscanner Fish Counter af last February“s fisheries exhibition in Edin- burgh. Christened the Counting Tub, the new mod- el which has the advantage of using the same control unit and sensors as in the standard Bioscanner is ideal for use in hatcheries in counting small fish from 3- 100 g. Trial runs of the Counting Tub were carried out prior to the exhibition by Calverton Fish Farms of Calverton, Nottinghamshire. Three days of extensive testing with controlled samples of variously sized fish pro- duced impressive results, with Calverton manager Alan Henshaw describing the Counting Tub“s rapid and accurate counting capa- bility as excellent. The mobility and ease of operation also impressed the Calverton staff, who are confident their new acquisi- tion will save them both time end money in the future. Sales of Vaki“s Counting Tub have topped 30 units since it“s indtroduction last February, in addition to al- most 40 Bioscanner sys- tems, which are used in counting fish from grading machines. The number of Bioscanner users is thus rapidly approaching 200, most of whom are in the UK and Norway, although units ureyri. (stess er stærsti fram- leiðandi fiskfóðurs á íslandi og selur einnig nokkuð af tækja- búnaöi til fiskeldis. are also in operation in the Faroe Islands, lceland, the US, Chile, Canada, Austra- lia, New Zealand, Sweden, Finland, Spain, France, Ja- pan and Israel. Managing director Her- mann Kristjánsson is confi- dent that Vaki“s on-going de- velopment program will al- low the company to consistently meet the chang- ing needs of fish farmers, with the new Counting Tub and a special setup for counting in wellboats, two prime examples of recent in- novations. Present development ef- forts at the company aim at adding a Biomass or weight measuring function to the standard Bioscanner by processing data obtained by the unit“s sensors. The new feature will provide users with information on total fish weight and weight distribu- tion. According to Kristjánsson, the project is well on its way and presently capable of es- timating the weight of fishes passing through the scanner to within +/- 5% error, with the marketing slated to begin as soon as a figure of +/- 3% error has been achieved. Present Bioscanner users will have the option of adding the new function by having a program chip replaced in the control unit.
