THE WORKS OF ÓLAFUR ELÍASSON
Einar Þorsteinn in Berlin here writes about a young
visual artist with Icelandic roots - Ólafur Elíasson. He
has, in a relatively short time, gained world-wide
recognition to an astonishing degree; at the present
time he has works on exhibit in 62 different galleries,
and this year (2000) a new exhibition containing his
works will open every five days on the average.
Elíasson has become part of an elite group of artists
whose works are commissioned by respected art gal-
leries throughout the world. Over the past two years,
those works have grown in size, as the accompanying
photographs illustrate. The writer hopes that in the
future Elíasson will produce more “accessible” works
- read: smaller - to give Icelandic institutions and pri-
vate individuals the opportunity to purchase some of
them. ■
