Samanteht Kransæðaaðgerðir hafa smátt og smátt öðlast sinn sess í meðferð á kransæðasjúkdómi og dauðsföll í sambandi við þessar aðgerðir hafa stöðugt farið minnkandi. Þetta má rekja til betri svæfinga en áður tíðkuðust, betri hjarta- og lungnavéla við aðgerðirn- ar og aukinnar þekkingar á kransæðasjúkdómi. Nú á dögum er aðgerðardauði á flestum stöðum, sem við þessa vinnu fást, minni en 4%. Með því að velja sjúklinga rétt í kransæðaaðgerðir má ná mun betri árangri, en með því að nota lyflæknismeðferð ein- göngu. (Aðferðir, sem lýst er í máli og myndum, eru frá Cleveland Clinic).
