aðra hefur fyrirbyggjandi næringarmeð-
ferð færst í vöxt. Gripið er þá inn í með
sérstökum aðgerðum þegar líkur eru tald-
ar á versnandi næringarástandi. Dæmi
um slíka meðferð getur þá verið auka-
skammtur eða slöngumötun, til dæmis
fyrir svefn. Nauðsynlegt er að velja nær-
ingarríkar aukamáltíðir, bæði þegar á að
fyrirbyggja og meðhöndla vannæringu.
Niðurstöður íslenskrar rannsóknar
benda til vannæringar meðal 10—20%
aldraðra á stofnunum á íslandi (Kolbrún
o.fl., 1990). Við þurfum að afla okkur
þekkingar um næringarástand sjúklinga
á sjúkradeildum og vinna að endurbótum
á næringarástandi aldraðra. Næring er
ein af frumþörfum mannsins og því ekki
óeðlilegt að upphafskona nútíma hjúkrun-
ar, Florence Nightingale, hafi lagt mikla
áherslu á sambandið milli sjúkdóms,
bata, næringar og hjúkrunar. Astæða er
fyrir íslenska hjúkrunarfræðinga að gera
slíkt hið sama.
