<A collection of cartoons by the famous Faroese cartoonist
Óli Petersen (* Klaksvík 1936) conceming the Faroese cus-
tom of pilot-whaling and the fierce criticism from animal
rights groups it has had to face for a number of years. Óli
Petersen, a graphic artist, has been working for the Faroese
newspaper "Sosialurin" since 1988. The introduction and
the captions to the cartoons are in Faroese, Icelandic (trans-
lation: Edvard T. Jónsson), Danish (transl. Dorete Bloch,
Lars Tofte Rasmussen), English (transl. Louis Wilson, Bir-
git Remmel), French (transl. Luc Sandre, Geneviáve De-
