Uriglox, a new kind of test paper for detecting subnormal concentrations
of glucose in urine was made available for clinical trials on two populations
reported in this paper, the first being an unselected sample of hospitalized
females, age over 16 years, the second a random sample of the female
population in the Reykjavik area, age 33—60.
The test was found to be very effective in detecting significant
bacteriurias caused by the most common urinary pathogens, less effective
in detecting bacteriurias caused by mixed flora and ineffective in detecting
bacteriuria caused by staphylo- and/or streptococci.

pp. 117—127: Sigurjónsson, J.: Studies on the Incidence of Stomach Cancer
in Iceland.
This paper is a retrospective review of studies on stomach cancer in
Iceland originally initiated by professor N. Dungal and made under the
auspices on the Icelandic Cancer Society, and supported by U.S. Public
Health Service, with grants from the National Cancer Institute. Mortality
from stomach cancer in Iceland, still relatively high, has shown a definite
downward trend in recent years. The theory of an association between
dietary contents of 3,4-benzopyrene and frequency of stomach cancer is
discussed and in the light cf recent investigations the author is rather
inclined to question the significance of these chemicals in explaining the
relatively high incidence of stomach cancer in Iceland.
pp. 131—139: Jakobsson, P. H. J.: Intrauterine Devices: Case of Perforation
of Uterus.
Presentation of one case where a Lipper-Loop had perforated the
uterus and was implan'.ed in the omentum. Two pregnancies after the
perforation, the first an uneventful fullterm delivery of a living baby,
the second pregnancy a legal abortion. The author discusses the most
serious complications recently referred in the medical litterature on
intrauterine devices.
