(Intrauterine contracep- tive device) started in Iceland year 1963 in close cooperation with Population Council in New York. The authors report results from the first five years follow up of 600 women who used I. U. D. for 15422 women months. Pregnancy rate was 1.94 according to Pearl's formula as modified by Stix — Notestein, that is the pregnancy rate per 100 years of ex- posure. Total number of R (pregnancy rate) = conceptions x 1200 Total mths of exposure The authors’ material by now counts over two thousand women and it can be stated that the use of I. U.
