Biographical note:
August Henrik Manicus, * July 5,1821 inTórshavn. Sonof
Claus Manicus, landskimrg (procincial surgeon) of the
Faroes from 1820 to 1828. A. Manicus studied medicine in
Kiel and Copenhagen from 1841 to 1846. In 1846 he was
sent to the Faroes together with Peter Ludwig Panum to
fight the epidemic of measles which had broken out there.
From 1848 to 1850 he worked as a military surgeon. Mani-
cus died in Fredericia on Sept. 3, 1850
