There were a few persons in Iceland how- ever, who considered that this situation was very unsatisfactory. One of them was Jón Ey- þórsson, chief of the forecasting section of the Icelandic Meteorological Office. Fle was of the opinion, that our knowledge of the ice condi- tions east of Greenland was much too poor, 6 JÖKULL 22. ÁR and that it was very vital to increase the ob- servations and utilize them for ice research, which would be extremely important if the sea ice increased again. Due to his efforts the observational pro- gramme was strengthened in several ways. Jón Eyþórsson then compiled and published these observations in Jökull from 1953 to 1967.
