skipar hjúkrunarfræðingum á legudeíldum í lykilhlutverk við
að efla öryggi sjúklinga og í flestum tilvikum er það mat
hjúkrunarfræðinga á ástandi sjúklings sem lagt er til grundvallar
útkalli gjörgæsluteymis. Með því að sýna árvekni, forgangsraða
verkefnum, meta títt og kerfisbundið ástand sjúklinga, ná
yfirsýn og heildarmynd, þekkja fyrirboðaeinkenni, taka mark á
eigin hugboði og innsæi og þekkja rétt viðbrögð, þá er öryggi
sjúklinga eflt og þjónustan bætt.
Gjörgæsluteymi efla tengsl heilbrigðisstarfsfólks legu- og
gjörgæsludeilda, auðvelda miðlun upplýsinga og geta aukið
samfellu í meðferð. Einnig getur slíkt vinnufyrirkomulag stuðlað
að bættri þekkingu hjúkrunarfræðinga á vöktun og meðferð
mikið veikra sjúklinga á legudeildum og hvatt til nákvæmari
skráningar. Síðast en ekki síst eykur slíkt fyrirkomulag skilning
starfsfólks gjörgæsludeilda á aðstæðum og vinnuálagi á
legudeildum.
