6) Vaccination with anatoxin is suggested as a prophylactic measure
for children in Reykjavik.
Epidemic Cerebro-spinal Meningitis, has not yet been recorded in
Iceland with any certainty. Occasionally medical officers have ima-
gined to have come across a few sporadic cases suggestive of this
disease. This year it was registered as the cause of death of one per-
son and another case was mentioned, but the diagnosis seems to be
just as dubious as before.
5. Venereal diseases. Notified cases of venereal diseases in the years
1921—1930 are as follows (cf. tables V, VI and VII 1—-3):

0. Tuberculosis (all forms). The number of notified cases of tuber-
culosis has been decreasing for the last two years, according to monthly
reports from medical officers (cl'. taliles V—VI).

Table VIII, however, in which at the close of the year doctors try to
give an account of the number of tuberculous patients known to them,
shows a larger figure than ever before. It must moreover be borne in
mind, that in this table Reykjavik is not included, as no such reports
from there have come to hand. The hard facts are, that tuberculosis is
not decreasing in this country. The death-rate, which is higher than
ever (2,2%c), is the strongest proof of Ihe fact.
Deaths from tuberculosis may i>e specified as follows (last year’s
figures in round brackets); Pulmonary tuberculosis 162 (151), uni-
versal tulierculosis 5 (6), scropulosis 3 (1), tuberculosis of bones and
joints 4 (5), meningeal tuberculosis 35 (36), abdominal tuberculosis
14 (9), tuberculosis of the urinary and generative organs 3 (3), other
organs 6 (3).
7. Lcprosi/ is steadily decreasing, as may lie seen from the following
