verulega. Verulegur ávinningur væri að því að geta greint erfðagalla eins og
bógkreppu og gula fitu á kjöti með DNA aðferðum. Nauðsynlegt er að huga betur að
greiningum á príongeninu og úrvali gegn áhættuarfgerð fyrir riðu þar sem stórfelldar
áætlanir í þá veru eru þegar komnar í framkvæmd í Evrópu. Hér á landi er mjög góður
gagnagrunnur í skýrsluhaldi í sauðfjárrækt sem býður upp á betri möguleika til
rannsókna á QTL í sauðfé en víða annars staðar.
Öll íslensku búfjárkynin búa yfir einstæðri litafjölbreytni og því tilvalinn efniviður til
rannsókna á litaerfðavísum. Niðurstöður myndu nýtast beint til að stuðla að viðhaldi
sjaldgæfra víkjandi lita.
