dyb og blød. For i det hele taget at gøre Fremgang maatte
vi søge helt ud til det aabne Vand, en Vaage paa en halv Snes
engelske Mils Længde, og slæde langs dette, indtil vi den 20. Juni
naaede Mallemukfjældet.
Jeg var nu blevet meget syg af Skørbug og kunde slet ikke
støtte paa Benene, saa jeg var glad over at faa den Hvile, som
den bløde Sne tvang os til at tage, thi at fortsætte, inden den
var smeltet og Vandet løbet af Isen, var umuligt. Noglé faa
Dage efter vor Ankomst til Mallemukfjældet fandt vi det ai
Bræ ved Mallemukfjældet.
Danmarks-Ekspeditionen udlagte Depot for Mylius Erichsen, ab-
solut urørt, men desværre en hel Del ødelagt af Vand. Jagten
var her som andre Steder paa Kysten kun meget ringe. Stoi'jagt
saa vi ikke noget som helst af, og det eneste Kød, Iversen kunde
skaffe, var Maager; det var kun faa, og skønt han var meget
ihærdig og ofte var ude 12—14—16 Timer, bragte han sjæl-
dent mere end 1, højst 2 Maager med tilbage til Teltet; men
disse Maager hjalp mig saa meget, at jeg i Løbet af S Dage var
blevet saa rask, at jeg igen kunde støtte paa Benene, og da vi
endelig, for overhovedet at have en Udsigt til at eksistere, for-
lod Mallemukfjældet en halv Snes Dage senere, var jeg ikke
alene i Stand til at gaa, men ogsaa til at gøre min Del af Ar-
