152 LÆKNABLAÐIÐ og dr. B.C. Sykes, Nuffield Department of Pathology & Bacteriology í Oxford. SUMMARY Is Coxarthrosis an inherited disease? A family with seventeen siblings was investigated. Fourteen of the siblings have confirmed coxarthrosis. The mother (bom 1899) of the seventeen siblings has had bilateral total hip replacement and her mother (bom in 1875) was crippled with coxarthrosis at an early age. Several more members of this family are known to have coxarthrosis. Their general health is good and symptoms are rare in other joints. Further studies are being carried out to chart the distribution of coxarthrosis in other generations of this family and to investigate how coxarthrosis may be inherited in this family. HEIMILDIR 1.
