SUMMARY An Icelandic version of the Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ>) was completed by 30 Icelandic rheumatoid arthritis patients and the results were compared with objective ergotherapist evaluation. The degree of correlation was high (Spearman rank correlation 0.9, p<0.001), confirming that the HAQ questionnaire reflects functionai disability in Icelandic rheumatoid arthritis patients. Questionnaire results also correlated with disease duration, age and grip strength, but not with Ritchie’s index or ESR. Interestingly, the question related to vacuum cleaning registered a very high disability score, an observation that may be related to Icelandic housing with extensive carpeting. HEIMILDIR 1.
