later redrafted to scale 1:250,000 and published (Sig-
urgeirsson, 1980).
We digitized Sigurgeirsson’s original data from
the 1:100,000 maps and included them in a composite
magnetic map of Iceland (Kristjánsson et al., 1989).
This map represents the best available estimate of the
residual field caused by crustal sources. As detailed
information on flight altitudes was not preserved, no
effort has been made to transform the magnetic sur-
vey to a common altitude, and no filtering other than
10 second averaging has been applied.
