These examples are casually selected from various parts of the saga and
could easily be multiplied. They offer definite proof that the text in
463/560 is often more original than that in W and consequently any-
thing but ‘valueless’. It is frequently of help in determining which read-
ings are old in the B-redaction and which were introduced in W.

The text that has thus emerged is no less remarkable in another respect.
As was mentioned earlier, W has lacunae corresponding to EgEA I, ch.
