It is thus beyond doubt that 458(a) belongs to the B-redaction. Its ex-
emplar was not, however, closely related to p/W, but displayed both
older and occasionally younger readings.
EgEA I, ch. 11,14-26, where W is available for comparison [the se-
ven lines at the top of W f. 28r], is an extremely short passage and the
likenesses are not very remarkable:
11.24 mc5 kærleik miklum M K (and 560), ual W, vel 458.
11.25 su5r M (and 560), om. W 458 (and K).
It may be mentioned that the phrase in M (and 560) ok vtleizlan hin
skauruligsta (EgEA I, ch. 11,23) is also in 458: og vt leydsla hin prydi-
ligasta, but in neither K nor W. Here, as often happens elsewhere, two
copyists have omitted the same words independently of each other.
Behind 458(a) we catch a glimpse of a vellum codex that can scarce-
ly have been younger than the thirteenth century. The nickname hak-
langr at EgEA I, ch. 9,15, has been altered to hadangr, a misreading
that is only intelligible if the original exemplar had the archaic spelling
haclangr.
