use of þad (=ad) in all the best manuscripts is at
5514, and in 285 alone at 855.
581516 Elgfrödi . . . Þörir] All but two (Adv and BM2)
of the primary manuscripts have these names in the
reverse order, an evident error in view of 611'4 and
the subsequent course of the story. The mistake must
have been in the common original; it is not surprising
tliat two of the primary manuscripts and a few un-
related secondary manuscripts have corrected it in-
dependently.
6310 heptid] One expects skaptid; cf. 626-13.
653,5,6 Hofungur] The common original doubtless
read hgfundur, which is preserved in most of the manu-
scripts; in both 285 and 109 Brynjólfur Jónsson altered
this forgotten word to a more familiar-looking form.
667 eg1] All the best primary manuscripts omit ad
here; other examples are at 824, 8419 and 1065.
