sjúklingar sjálfir eiga oft og tíðum erfitt með að
átta sig á þeim vanda sem við er að glíma og það
í meira mæli en þegar um mál- og hreyfitruflanir
er að ræða. Gildi fræðslu fyrir sjúklinga, aðstand-
endur og aðra er mikilvægt, skilningur á vanda
glæðir áhuga á að takast á við hann og hlýtur að
styrkja þjálfun og alla endurhæfingu. í ljósi þess
að heilablóðfall er einn af þeim sjúdómum sem er
dýrastur vestrænum samfélögum hvað fötlun og
endurhæfingu varðar (62) skiptir gaumstol aug-
ljóslega máli ekki bara fyrir sjúkling og aðstand-
endur hans heldur samfélagið allt.
