placing the earlier form gelti, as is plain from einum.
The best manuscripts agree on the dative, but the
accusative is to be expected here, see Cleasby-Vigfus-

sed by Halldór Halldórsson, Islenzk Orðtök, Beykja-
vík 1954, pp. 48-49, and by Einar Ól. Sveinsson,
Skírnir, 1954, p. 209. What form the expression took
in the common original of the manuscripts of Hrólfs
saga, is uncertain, but it was presumably either as
above, the reading of 285 and S17 (both by Brynjólfur
Jónsson), or so sem alsolla lieke, as in 9 (by Jón Erlends-
son) and 109 (by B.J.). (The other primary manu-
scripts do not help much. 11 and BM2 have æ, hiole
for éú solle. Adv has a þrœþi for áí solle, and 10 is
