6818 so var hann torsöttur\ Only 9 (Jón Erlendsson)
has made the correction to the neuter forms. The
originator of the error may have had Laufi in mind,
for this was the name of Bpðvarr’s sword, although
the saga does not say so.
9313 frytt] The spellings used in the best manuscripts
show that the scribes took this word as frítt, not fritt.
95i2-i3 var zcici m Sparad biki og þurrum skydum] Spara
does not normally govern the dative; perhaps an in-
finitive has been omitted after sparad.
9820 Voggur] So abrupt an introduction of a name is
uncharacteristic. Perhaps a phrase such as er Vgggur
hiet is missing after mann, 9811.
9917 Blotar hann einum ggllt] Ggllt is a dative, re-
placing the earlier form gelti, as is plain from einum.
The best manuscripts agree on the dative, but the
accusative is to be expected here, see Cleasby-Vigfus-

sed by Halldór Halldórsson, Islenzk Orðtök, Beykja-
vík 1954, pp. 48-49, and by Einar Ól. Sveinsson,
Skírnir, 1954, p. 209. What form the expression took
in the common original of the manuscripts of Hrólfs
saga, is uncertain, but it was presumably either as
above, the reading of 285 and S17 (both by Brynjólfur
Jónsson), or so sem alsolla lieke, as in 9 (by Jón Erlends-
son) and 109 (by B.J.). (The other primary manu-
scripts do not help much. 11 and BM2 have æ, hiole
for éú solle. Adv has a þrœþi for áí solle, and 10 is
similar, omitting skialfa þötti and reading liek sem á
þrœde. Only the unreliable G (written in 1667) has
