dæmi það, er vér prentum hér. Það
er leiðrétting á dæminu no. 63 í
skákdæmasafni hans, er hann gaf út
í fyrra: “Problémes d’Echechs”
(Paris 1900). í bréfi sinu til vor
kemst hann þannig að orði um
timarit vort: “I must say that the
entire ‘make up’ of I Uppnámi is
a little ahead of anything heretofore
accbieved and I trust that the De-
cember nurnber to ■which you refer
is only ‘the last’ of the series of
1901 and not absolutely the last.”
—í Pbiladelphia (Patterson & White Co.) er verið að gefa út merkilega
skákbók: “The Chess Digest” eptir Mordecai Morgan; 1. bindið (4to,
472 bls.) kom ut í mai, en alls á ritið að vera i 3 bindum. Við samn-
ingu þess hefur höfundur til rannsóknar 15 000 tefld töfl og byggir ritið
á þvi. Geta má og þess til að sýna nákvæmnina, sem þar er, að af einni
byrjun, spænska leiknum, eru gefin 1671 afbrigði. I hinu útkomna bindi
eru alls 7 byrjanir, og kostar það innbundið 2*/a dollar.
—Utkomin er hjá C. Briigel& Sohn i Ansbach Schachjahrbuch fiir 1900,
útgefin af Ludwig Bachmann; er hún eins og hinar fyrri árbækur safu af
töflum og skákdæmum frá árinu og svo helztu skáknýungar teknar með.
—Hinn kunni enski skákdæmahöfundur Mrs. W. J. Baird, Brighton, er nú
að undirbúa til prentunar safn af skákdæmum sinum; mun það koma út
í byrjun næsta árs og innihalda um 600 af dæmum hennar.

posers ,of the very higheBt rank, ever brought together in a single year’s issue
of a chess periodical. They are not the result of any tourney or competition,
but are contributions generously made by their authors as a mark of their
sympathy for Icelandic chess and their interest in the extension of the game in
a country, the literature and history of which contain so many notable ehess
incidents. We feel it proper to express tlie gratitude of all Icelandic chees
men towards those who have ehabled us to form a little collection of problems
(contained in our Supplement) such as, in our opinion, will always continue to
possess no slight interest, both from its intrinsic value and by reason of the
peculiar way in whicli it makes its appearance.
