svara vel meðferð með acetýlsalicylsýru.
Flest tilfellanna lagast því á nokkrum vik-
um eða mánuðum.
Einstaka sjúklingur fær langvarandi
bólgu í kirtilinn, sem blossar upp aftur
og aftur, en hægt er að halda bólgunni
í skefjum með sterum, ef acetylsalicyl-
sýra nægir ekki. f>að eru því aðeins svæsn-
ari tilfelli, sem eru meðhöndluð með ster-
um. Af þeim 70, sem greind voru í Olmsted
County, fengu 23 stera.11 Stundum gengur
erfiðlega að hætta sterameðferð, vegna
þess að bólgan blossar upp aftur, þegar
sterar eru lækkaðir. Þá hefur stundum
reynst vel að nota L-Thyroxin í stuttan
tíma, en með því móti lækkar skjald-
kirtilsörvi, sem eins og áður er getið, er
oft hækkaður og talinn auka bólguna.8
Rétt þykir því að reyna að lækka hann
með L-Thyroxini. í flestum tilvikum lag-
ast sjúkdómurinn innan árs, en stöku sinn-
um stendur hann í allt að 10 ár. Af þeim
sjúklingum, sem hér er greint frá var sá
veikastur er greint er frá í sjúkrasögu II
og hafði ekki náð fullum bata fyrr en að
ári liðnu. Hún var bæði meðhöndluð með
L-Thyroxini og sterum.
SUMMARY
Three cases of Subacute Thyroiditis, seen
at Reykjavík City Hospital, are presented.
One patient was unusual in that she also had
myocarditis. The hospital records in Reykja-
vík hospitals were reviewed for a ten year
period (1967-1976) and nine other cases of
Subacute Thyroiditis were found. Three of
those had been diagnosed surgically. This
disease seems to be rather rare in Iceland.
The diagnosis, clinical course, etiology and
treatment of Subacute Thyroiditis is dis-
cussed.
