LOKAORÐ
Þrýstingssár á Landspítala reyndust tiltölulega algeng en
rúmlega þriðjungur sjúklinga á Landspítala var í hættu á að
fá þrýstingssár. Sjúkrahúsið bjó nokkuð vel að rúmdýnum og
flestar deildir áttu loftskiptidýnur handa sjúklingum í mikilli hættu.
Aðgerðir starfsfólks til að koma í veg fyrir þrýstingssár voru hins
vegar ómarkvissar. Starfsfólk þekkti ekki áhættumatskvarða
og sjúklingar lágu ekki í öllum tilvikum á réttu undirlagi.
Notkun snúnings­ og hagræðingarskema var of lítil miðað
við fjölda sjúklinga í hættu. Með aukinni þekkingu starfsfólks
um áhættumat og varnir gegn myndun þrýstingssára og
aukinni árvekni þess á að vera unnt að fækka þrýstingssárum
umtalsvert. Auka má hagræðingu í rekstri deilda með því að
hafa dýrar rúmdýnur í miðlægri geymslu þannig að þær gagnist
sem best þeim sjúklingum sem þarfnast þeirra mest. Þannig
mætti lækka kostnað heilbrigðisþjónustunnar en umfram allt
að leysa sjúklinga frá þeirri þjáningu sem fylgir þrýstingssárum.

Höfundar þakka hjúkrunarfræðingum, sem stóðu að gagnasöfnun,
og öðru starfsfólki Landspítalans sem stuðlaði að því að hægt var
að framkvæma þessa rannsókn. Einnig fá sjúklingar, sem tóku
þátt í rannsókninni, einlægar þakkir. Rannsóknin var styrkt úr
