The average distance from Cape Straumnes
to the ice boundary seems to have been about
45 miles with nearest approach of 23 miles to-
wards the end of the month.
5/5 The eastern margin of the Greenlancl
ice running froni 6916/1300 to 6900/1320 to
6820/1230 had conc. of 4/10 brash and block
ancl 4/10 small and medium floes. Thence to
6750/1700 to 6725/1900 to 6726/2040 to 6705/
2243 to 6650/2830 the conc. was 2/10 brash and
block and 1/10 small and medium floes. From
6650/2830 to 6610/3120 the conc. was 3/10
brash and 3/10 small and medium floes. The
area 6601/3120 to 6519/3300 had concentrations
of 9/10 brash and block. There was a large lead
at 6730/2000.
14/5 The eastern margin of the ice ran
from 6615/2825 to 6603/3100 (conc. 5/10 brash
and block) to 6547/3130 (conc. 5/10 brash and
block and 3/10 small and medium floes) to
6450/3320 (conc. 7/10 brash and block) to 6455/
3635 (conc. 8/10 brash and block) to 6420/
3740 (conc. 6/10 brash and block) to 6405/3945
(conc. 7/10 brash and block) to 6025/4245 with
cencentration of 4/10 brash ancl block.
21/5 The eastern boundary ran from 7116/
0745 to 7130/0815 to 7113/0814 to 7120/0850
to 7103/0851 to 7051/0904 to 7051/0715 to 7120

reported position of the ice margin from 6600
/2917 to 6618/2900 and further a close ice
field between 6624/2712 and 6600/2700.

7035/0925 to 7038/1035 to 7025/1000 to 7010/
1131 to 6935/1220 to 6917/1200 to 6842/1315
to 6817/1522 to 6811/1640 to 6745/1627 to
6735/1840 to 6820/2150 to 6805/2737 to 6827/
2450 to 6742/2427 to 6643/2647 to 6630/2830
to 6640/2913 to 6600/3000.
The area from 7035/0925 to 6820/2150 had
conc. of 4/10 brash and block. The area from
6827/2450 to 6600/3000 had conc. of 5/10 brash
and block.
A large polynya was sighted 6904/1930 to
6946/2000 to 6925/2115 to 6904/1930 with conc.
1/10 brash and block.
29/5 M/g Ægir observed an icebelt 36 miles
to the WNW of Cape Kópur, a close icefield
32 miles off Cape Deild and a wide icefield 23
miles off Cape Straumnes.
30/5 M/g Ægir 2400 Z: From position 6700/
2106 the margin of an icefield is extending
10 miles E-wards.
These icefields were probably detached from
the main ice area.

The average distance of ice boundary from
Cape Straumnes was about 45 miles with nearest
approach of 30 miles on June 16.
2/6 The eastern pack boundary ran from
7110/0830 to 7034/1120 to 7043/1217 to 7002/
1345 to 6937/1526 to 6836/1520 to 6753/1930
to 6743/2100 to 6627/2615 to 6638/2700 to
6530/3030.
11/6 The trawler Alturey reports 1300 Z: A big
iceberg sighted at 57°55' N 41°20' W.
12/6 The eastern boundary of Greenland ice
ran from 6639/2634 to 6600/2745 to 6620/2832
to 6549/3100 to 6605/3127 to 6600/3247 to
6515/3523 to 6509/3813 to 6400/3842 to 6348/
4006 to 6312/3946 to 6000/4210 to 5945/4300.
The area approximately 5 miles west of the
boundary 6030/4200 - 6000/4210 - 5945/4300
had conc. of 1/10 brash and block, with few
icebergs and growlers in the Kap Farewell area.
16/6 The boundary was observed from 7115/
1130 to 7045/1110 to 6825/1600 to 6800/1750
to 6752/1747 to 6725/2230 to 6630/2445 to
6712/2935 to 6626/2545 to 6627/2800 to 6610/
2800 to 6618/2835 to 6658/2815 to 6707/2912
to 6511/3015 to 6512/3040 to 6550/3200 to
6545/3300 to 6622/3342 to 6612/3440 to 6527/
3430 to 6536/3443 to 6526/3548. A few icebergs
were sighted in the vicinity of 6605/3430.
27/6 The eastern ice boundary ran from
7115/1225 to 7000/1455 to 6941/1447 to 6915/
1600 to 6854/1530 to 6913/1655 to 6850/1700
to 6830/1938 to 6811/2013 to 6740/2335 to
6658/2425 to 6618/2648 to 6552/2720 to 6535/
2825 to 6500/2925.
