edition, pp. 89-168 incl. lacking. The editor was Chr. Worm, afterwards bishop
of Zeeland, but the edition is really the work of Arni Magnússon, whose MS. and
notes Worm published without permission, while at Oxford in 1697; the t.-p.
was printed in 1716.
Hér var sérstaklega athyglisvert, að titill bókarinnar var frábrugðinn því, er áður
segir um mitt eintak, að því leyti, að orðin „Et Dissertatio“ koma ekki fram og í
eintakið talið vanta bls. 89-168. Kom þá næst til athugunar skrásetning Halldórs
Hermannssonar í Islandica Vol. I.2 Er þar gefinn aftur sami texti og áður á titilblaði
og bls.tal (2) -þ 88, [169] - 192. Ennfremur eftirfarandi:
Contents: t.-f.; Icelandic text with Latin version, interpretation and notes, pp.
1-88; De Aræ Multiscii vita et scriptis dissertatio, pp. [169]-192 (half-litle on
p. [169], reverse blank). The present copy is an imperfect issue, as the „comm-
entarius“, pp. 89-152 is lacking; but all copies of this edition, so far as is
known, have a lacuna from p. 153 to p. 168 incl. The only copy we know of
with a t.-p. different from that given above, is in the British Museum, the title
being as follows: „Aræ Multiscii Schedæ de Islandia. Accedit Commentarius, Et
Dissertatio de Aræ Multiscii Vita et Scriptis. Oxoniæ, E Theatro Seldoniano. An.
Dom. MDCCXVI“ tlie contents being the same as described except that the
Commentarius is there and fills pp. [89]-152 (half-title: In Aræ Multiscii
Schedas de Islandia Commentarius, p. [89]. Möhius (Cat. p. 116) gives this
title and gives the contents as if there were no lacuna, but that is, of course, his
mistake. Tliis edition was printed about 1695 from the notes of Arni Magnússon
and without his permission, the editor being Christen Worm, later bishop of
Zeeland (d. 1737). Concerning this edition see Luxdorphiana ved R. Nyerup,
Kiöbenhavn 1791. pp. 333-345 (Om Biskop Worms Udgave af Aræ Frode, by
B. W. Luxdorph).
Af ofanrituðu mátti sjá, að eintak mitt var hliðstætt eintaki British Museum, enn-
fremur, að prentuð höfðu verið tvö mismunandi titilblöð til notkunar með og án
skýringanna. Þá mátti draga þá ályktun af orðum H. H„ að honum væri kunnugt
um nokkur fleiri eintök, en öll með titilblaði af sömu gerð og í Fiske safni.
Þar sem mér lék hugur á að sjá eintalc British Museum, notaði ég tækifærið árið
eftir, 1965, er ég kom enn til London og lagði leið mína í þetta mikla bókasafn í
fyrsta sinn. Mun ég ekki lýsa nánara þeirri heimsókn, sem tók fjórar stundir, en
mestan hluta þess tíma beið ég umbeðins eintaks í aðallestrarsal safnsins undir hinu
risavaxna hvolfþaki. Voru vonir mínar mjög teknar að dvína, þegar mér var vísað
yfir í þann hluta safnsins, er nefnist North Library, er mér skildist, að hefði sérstak-
lega að geyma fágætar og verðmætar hækur. Þar var að lokum borið fyrir mig ein-
