Nautariðukreppan
VARÐ KANADÍSKUM
BÆNDUM DÝR
Nautariðan, sem greindist í
Kanada árið 2003, hefur fram að
þessu kostað kanadískan land-
búnað um 3,2 milljarða evra en
tekjur kanadískra bænda lækk-
uðu um þriðjung á árinu 2003.
Á fyrri hluta árs 2004 lækk-
uðu þær síðan enn um 30%
meðan beðið var eftir að önnur
lönd opnuðu markaði sína aftur
fyrir kanadískt nautakjöt.
Kreppan hófst í maí 2003,
þegar kúariða greindist í naut-
grip í Alberta fylki. Um þrjátíu
lönd, þar á meðal Bandaríkin
lokuðu þá fyrir innflutning á
kanadísku nautakjöti. Banda-
ríkin banna enn innflutning á
lifandi nautgripum frá Kanada
sem eru eldri en 30 mánaða.
