Distal tephrochronology of NW Europe
Table 2. Sites in Sweden where tephra horizons have been identified. Tephras in sites described by Persson (1966, 1967b)
have not been identified by chemical analyses and the correlations are tentative. The Hekla-S/Kebister tephra is here
referred to as Hekla-S. LST = Laacher See Tephra. Note that some of the radiocarbon dates reported in Persson (1966)
were revised in Persson (1967b). For example, a radiocarbon dated tephra at 23 cm below peat surface at Klockamyren
with a reported age of c. 1120 AD in Persson (1966) was revised to c. 1375 AD in Persson (1967b), suggesting a possible
correlation with Öræfajökull-1362 rather than Hekla-1 (1104 AD). – Fundarstaðir gjósku í Svíþjóð. Gjóska sem Persson
(1966, 1967b) lýsti hefur ekki verið efnagreind og tengingar eru til bráðabirgða. Gjóskan Hekla-S/Kebister verður hér
eftir Hekla-S. LST=Laacher See Tephra. Sumar geislakolsgreininganna í grein Perssons,1966 voru endurskoðaðar í grein
hans, 1967b. T.d. var gjóska á 23 cm dýpi í mó í Klockamyren tímasett með geislakolsgreiningu u.þ.b. 1120 e. Kr. í 1966
greininni. Endurskoðuð tímasetning er u.þ.b. 1375 e. Kr. sem gæti bent til uppruna í Öræfajökulsgosi 1362 fremur en
Heklugosi 1104.
