Common in all parts in the lowland ; also in the central highland, e.g. at Hvítár-
vatn, Hvítárnes, Gránunes, and at the hot springs at Hveravellir (J.Gr., 1934).—
Arnardalur (S.S., 1933); Laugahraun and Hattver (S.S., 1931).
Life-form: G. (Rhizome Geophyte).
In marshes, bogs, moors; on moist, clayey or sandy ground; often near hot springs.
Flor. VI—VII; fr. mat. VIII.
Max. height: 45 cm; average: 19 cm.
Geogr. area: N. Am. : Labrador to Unalaschka, southward to Washington, Colorado,
Indiana etc. S. Am.: Chile to Tierra del Fuego.—Greenl.: W. 59°55'—70°43'.
E. 63°4'; 71°10'—73°35'.—Eur.: Fær. ; E.S.I.; from northern Scandinavia, south-
ward to the Mediterranean ; Alps, Caucasus.—Asia: From about 63° N. lat., south-
