This hybrid was first recorded from Icel. by Babington, loc. cit., under the name
Salix ovata Ser., and later on found by Strömfelt, loc. cit., and by him recognized
as the hybrid S. herbacea X S. lanata.
The hybrid is exceedingly variable with respect to stature and size, and in the
form and crenation of the leaves, as well as the pubescence. It seems to be very
frequent throughout Iceland and grows in nearly the same localities as S. herbacea.
