Rather frequent in all parts of the lowland, especially in the coastal regions;
not recorded from the central highland; sometimes cultivated in gardens as an
ornamental plant.
Life-form: H.
On sandy beaches, on the islands especially at the hatching places of birds; around
farmsteads and towns, in gardens; on earthen walls and roofs. See fig. 12.

H.H. contains a fragmentary specimen in flower of this plant, labelled “Reykjavík,
ded. Halldórsson Friðriksson”.—Benguerel, loc. cit., mentions M. Chamomilla, but
this is most probably due to a mistake. Where it is really found in Iceland, it is
only as an accidental introduction; it may even now and then be found at the
settlements in Greenland (cp. M. P. Porsild in Medd. om Gronl. vol. 92. No. 1,
p. 20, 1932).
