Rare in Iceland. Only found in
N., on the hills on both sides of Eyja-
fjörður, westward to Fljót (see fig.
138), but within this area it is fairly
common. (See also T.T., 1914, p.
301).
It was found for the first time by
Thoroddsen at Látur in Eyjafjörður,
1886.
Life-form : Ch.
On heaths, in company with Calluna
and other dwarf-shrubs; on herb-
slopes.
Flor. VI—VII; fr. mat. (?).
Max. height: 15 cm; average: 8 cm.
Geogr. area: Am.: Labrador and Quebec; mountains of Maine and New Hamp-
shire.—Greenl.: W. 60°—74°18'. E. 60°—72°10'.—Eur.: S.; arctic and subarctic
Eur.; Pyrenees.—Asia: Northern and central parts. Chukchee Penins., Kuriles,
Kamchatka, Hokkaido.

Vahl has entered this species in his list, and Baring-Gould, loc. cit., mentions it
as found by Kalmannstunga, W. Rostrup, loc. cit., mentions a specimen in H.H.
labelled: “ex Islandia ded. Robert 1837 Aug.”, cp. also Bennet, loc. cit. This
specimen is, however, not now to be found. It might be safer to exclude Rh. laþ-
ponicum from the Icelandic flora.
