This species is entered in König & Miiller’s list, loc. cit., and is incorporated
in all the older lists, only Vahl (1840, p. 375) doubts its occurrence in Iceland.
There are no specimens in evidence, and it is highly doubtful whether is has really
been found. It should be excluded from the Icelandic Flora.

Common in all parts, in the lowland as well as the highland. Both the normal
fructiferous and the viviparous form occur, and it may be difficult to say which of
them is the most common. Helgi Jónsson (1896, p. 334, 1905, p. 67) remarks that
the viviparous form is frequent especially near waterfalls, where he has seen specimens
up to 64 cm high.—The viviparous form has an eastern distribution, extending as
far westward as East Greenland (68°50'—73°33').

On gravelly ground in home-fields, on grassy slopes, heaths, mó, fell-field, in low
scrub, especially in the hills.
