The Novo Nordisk Foundation Brogðrdsvej 70 Postbox 71 2820 Gentofte Tel: +45 4443 9031 Fox +45 4443 9098 CALL FOR PROPOSALS ascular Biology Complications in of Diabetes The Novo Nordisk Foundation hereby invites applications for a Scandinavian Research Consortium ('Centre Without Walls') within Vascular Biology of Complications in Diabetes The background for selection of this topic is the need for basic research in a field that has great implications for the individual patient as well as for public health care expenditure. The Foundation has decided to fund a Consortium of internatio- nally highly qualified research groups that jointly address funda- mental aspects of vascular disease in diabetes. Contad to clinical research is considered of importance. The Foundation will support the selected Consortium with a total of 100 mill. DKK in the following way: up to 10 mill. DKK per year for a period of up to 10 years provided progress of the work is satisfadory. The amount refleds realistic costs of a coherent set of ambitious projeds and the long term nature of such research. It is envisaged that the Consortium will consist of three to five well-established research groups that jointly cover a range of rel- evant areas within the field. The scientific head of one of the re- search groups must be identified as 'Lead Investigator' and will have the responsibility for reporting to the Foundation on progress in research, as well as in matters of management and economy. Even though the Consortium must have its base in Scandinavia, collaboration with important research groups outside Scandinavia should be considered. Proposals seleded for final evaluation will be subjected to an in- ternational Peer Review and to site visits. Applications must be received by the Foundation no later than June 4, 1998. Detailed information and application forms can be requested from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Brogárdsvej 70, Postboks 71, DK 2820 Gentofte, e-mail:nnfond@novo.dk Information and application forms are available on the Internet: http://www.novonordiskfonden.dk The Novo Nordisk Foundation is o self-governing, profit-making foundation with two main purposes: to provide a stable foundation for Novo Nordisk A/S by holding a voting majoríty ofstock in the company, and to support research outside Novo Nordisk A/S (mainly in the biomedical sciences).
