From the specimens kept in H.H. this fern would seem to be very constant in
form in Iceland.
In N.W. and S.W. it is frequent; otherwise it is found on the south coast of
'Snæfellsnes, in one place in N. (Þóroddsstaðir, in Kaldakinn (I.Ó., 1926) and in one
place in E. (Urðarhvammur on Hólmanes at Reyðarfjörður (I.Ó., 1927). See
fig. 26.
Life-form: H.
In ravines, copses, on heather slopes.
Max. height: 75 cm ; average: 50 cm.
Geogr. area: Am. : North Am.; South Am. to Peru.—Eur. ; Fær.; E.S.I.; throughout
Europe.—Northern Asia, southward to Himalaya. Java. Asia Minor.—North Afr.,
Madeira.
