Common in most parts of the lowland. In the central highland recorded from
many localities: Hvítárvatn and Hveravellir (J.Gr., 1934). Hvannalindir (A. & F.,
1935, p. 440) ; Ódáðahraun and Brúáröræfi (S.S.), etc.
f. argyroleþis Ostf., with white, silvery shining spikelets, is found in N.W. (Látravík
in Aðalvík, coll. C.H.O., 1896).
Life-form: G. (Rhizome Geophyte).
In moist sandy places, especially sea-shores and the shores of lakes; on moist
slopes, etc.

Max. height: 20 cm ; average: 8 cm.
