Common throughout the lowlands; also in the central plateau, e.g. at Hvítár-
vatn, Blágnýpa, Gránunes at Svartá (J.Gr., 1934) ; Hveravejlir (V.R., 1935).
Much valued in Iceland as an excellent fodder for horses and sheep, and used
for hay on a large scale.

In marshes, wet meadows, and other moist places.
